Kiev. Darnitsa railway bridges. Darnitsky railway bridge

The bridge was built according to the project of the Kiev branch of the Proektstalkonstruktsiya Institute (chief engineer N. Rudenko). In 1946-1949. bulls were built on driven reinforced concrete piles and intermediate supports on caissons, which were first made by the flow-speed method and lowered by a hydromechanized method (the so-called "blind caisson"). The run-through structures were manufactured at the Dnepropetrovsk plant of metal structures named after I. I. Babushkin and assembled by Bridge Construction Crew No. 2 under the supervision of a civil engineer I. Barenboim.

Album of Mostootryad # 2, 1950, dedicated to the construction of the Darnitsa railway bridge: tov-tob.livejournal.com/141167.html

The bridge on two railway tracks is designed according to an asymmetric scheme. Closer to the left bank there are three large navigable bays, covered with arched metal trusses with train traffic in the lower part. The shallow-water part of the channel is covered by twelve smaller monolithic reinforced concrete arches with a prefabricated stand-up surface structure designed for passage above. All supports of the bridge are massive, monolithic, faced with granite.

In the history of the existence of the Darnitsa railway bridge, located in the capital, there were several destruction and restoration. The prerequisite for the construction of this bridge was the laying of a railway connecting Moscow, Kursk and Kiev. It was built between 1863 and 1869. The opening ceremony of the Darnitsky Bridge took place on April 4, 1870. At the time, this bridge was one of the longest railway bridges in all of Europe.

The project for the construction of the bridge was developed by military engineer A.E. Struve. Initially, the author of the project did not even imagine that his "brainchild" would bring him the rank of colonel, and later world fame. More than 3 million rubles were spent on the implementation of this project. Both Russian and foreign companies took part in the construction of the bridge. By the beginning of the First World War, the Darnitsky bridge was the third longest in Russia, yielding only to the Syzran and Yekaterinoslav bridges. To lay a 1.5-kilometer railway bridge, the builders needed almost 250 pounds of iron. An interesting fact is that during the construction of the Darnitsa Bridge, the coffered construction method was used, which at that time was not yet used in the country.

At the time of its opening, the Darnitsa railway bridge stood on thirteen stone foundations and had twelve spans, each of which was 292 feet long. To test the strength of the bridge, several interconnected stationary steam locomotives were used. Each of them weighed 18 thousand pounds. They were installed on each of the twelve bridge spans. Despite the fact that the Darnitsky bridge was a very cumbersome structure, from a distance it seemed airy and slender, similar to light lace.

On February 17, 1870, the first train passed along the Kursk-Kiev railway track, which renewed the newly built Darnitsky Bridge. From the windows of the carriages, the passengers of the train could enjoy the splendor of the mountain landscapes of Kiev. The writers of that time - M. Bulgakov, M. Gorky, A. Leskov and some others did not fail to note this in their works. However, in 1920 a sad event took place in the history of the Darnitsa railway bridge: it was blown up by the White Poles. Despite the severe damage, after only a year, the Darnytskyi bridge was completely restored. After this reconstruction, the bridge served for almost 20 years. A new blow to his fate occurred in 1941, when during the retreat of the Soviet army from Kiev, the bridge was blown up again. A temporary wooden bridge was built in its place. Subsequent restoration work on the Darnitsa railway bridge was carried out in the period from 1943 to 1949 according to the project of engineer Rudenko, who proposed using prefabricated railway structures in construction.

Darnytskyi railway bridge has a symbolic meaning for bridge construction in Ukraine. In place of the current bridge during the Great Patriotic War, Ukrainian builders under the leadership of Isaac Barenboim in thirteen days built a wooden bridge across the Dnieper to ferry people and military equipment in pursuit of the retreating enemy.
This is a super-record timeframe, if we take into account the fact that the builders were faced with a period of 20 days, and the work was carried out in November with periodic aerial bombardments of the German army. About 50 thousand people of Kiev took part in the construction. The length of the structure increased by eighty-one meters every day. The Americans, who were considered champions in the construction of bridges, could at that time finish building only fifty-six meters per day.
The history of Ukrainian bridge building began from this feat. In 1949, next to the temporary crossing, another bridge was erected - a capital, railway, designed by Rudenko. During its construction, for the first time in the domestic bridge building, prefabricated reinforced concrete structures were widely used.

The Darnitskiy railway bridge in Kiev has experienced several destruction and restoration during its entire existence. The construction of this bridge was initiated by the railway rebuilt in 1863-1869, which connected Moscow, Kursk and Kiev. On April 4, 1870, the grand opening at that time of one of the longest railway bridges in Europe took place.

The author of the project was the military engineer A.E. Struve, who initially did not even imagine that this work would bring him not only the rank of colonel, but also worldwide fame. The construction of the bridge cost a pretty penny, the total cost was more than 3 million rubles. Not only Russia, but also several foreign companies took part in the construction. At the beginning of the First World War, the Darnitsky railway bridge was the third longest in Russia, second only to the Syzran and Yekaterinoslavsky bridges. The construction of a 1.5-kilometer railway bridge took about 250 thousand poods of iron. It should be noted that the previously used construction method - the coffered one - was not used at all in domestic construction practice.

Thirteen stone foundations and twelve spans of 292 feet each - this is how the Darnytsky railway bridge in Kiev looked at the time of its commissioning. During testing, on each of these spans, several interconnected stationary locomotives, weighing 18 thousand poods, were installed. Although the structure itself was very bulky, from a distance it seemed as if airy, had a slender and graceful appearance, somewhat resembling lace.

The first train of the Kursk-Kiev railway passed here on February 17, 1870, thereby renewing the newly built railway bridge. Now, from the window of the carriages, passengers could observe the stunningly beautiful landscapes of the Kiev mountains. Writers A. Gorky, A. Leskov, M. Bulgakov and many others did not fail to write about the impressions received in their works. In 1920, the Darnytsky railway bridge in Kiev suffered an unenviable fate. It was blown up by the White Poles. At a fairly fast pace, in just one year, the bridge was restored. The reconstructed bridge served regularly for about 20 years, but in 1941, during the retreat of Soviet troops from Kiev, it was blown up again. The new Darnitsky railway bridge in Kiev was built over several years, from 1943 to 1949, on the site of a temporary wooden bridge. Engineer Rudenko's project was to use precast concrete structures.

The customer for the design and construction of the Darnitsky railway bridge in Kiev between Vydubychi (right bank) and Bereznyaki residential area (left bank) was the South-Western Railway. A permit for its construction was obtained on the basis of a feasibility study approved by the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated October 15, 2004 N733-r. A little time passed after the start of construction, as cracks were already discovered on the bearing pillars, and subsequently, one of the pillars of the bridge moved. According to the regulatory documents, the bridge was supposed to be completed in 2006, but construction continues to this day and no one is undertaking to predict when, finally, it will be completed. The uniqueness of this bridge lies in the fact that it must perform two functions: a railway and an automobile bridge. The railway part consists of two tracks, and the automobile part consists of six lanes (three in each direction). The Darnitskiy railway bridge in Kiev is one of the main railway bridges connecting the right and left banks of the capital of Ukraine, it serves as a connection to the east (Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk), in addition, many international trains transit through it.

The Darnitsky Bridge is a unique structure that simultaneously functions as a railway and road bridge. The length of this handsome man is 1066 meters. The bridge has two railway tracks and six road lanes (three in each direction), along which up to 120 pairs of trains and up to 60 thousand cars pass daily.

The Darnytskyi road-rail bridge was opened in 2011, and in order not to confuse it with the older namesake, built in 1949, it began to be called "Kirpa's Bridge" in honor of the initiator of the project - the late Minister of Transport and Communications Georgy Kirpa.

The new Darnitsky bridge was built with the aim of connecting Vydubychi and Bereznyaki, and at the same time unloading other transport links. In addition, the bridge is one of the most important railway bridges that connect the left and right banks of Kiev, at the same time connecting the capital with the eastern Ukrainian cities (Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk). Most of the international trains also cross the Darnitsky Bridge.
