Russia and France signed a statement on the cross-year of cultural tourism. The cross year of Russian-Spanish tourism has started Cross year

The Austrian tourism office in Moscow believes that the cross-year of tourism will contribute to the growth of bilateral tourist flows and will enrich the experience of the two countries in the development of tourism projects.

Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Alla Manilova from the Russian side and the head of the section of the Austrian Ministry of Economics Elisabeth Udolf-Strobl from the Austrian side signed a joint statement and program for holding a cross year of culture in 2017, starting with the opening of the national tourism office in Vienna. RIA Novosti reports this.

The parties intend to post on their Internet portals a preliminary list of programs, which will be supplemented with new activities over the next months and until the project closes in November next year.

As Ms. Udolf-Strobl noted, both sides are open to new ideas and initiatives. In turn, Alla Manilova noted that they expect initiatives “from the cultural institutions themselves.”
“Our world-famous museums, figures in music, theater, cinema and other fields love Austria and the Austrian public very much, and we will support them, including financially, and implement all their projects in Austria,” she said.

Udolf-Strobl recalled that the first major event of the tourism year will be the grand opening in mid-December in Vienna, followed by Russia’s participation in the international tourism exhibition Ferien-Messe-Wien. Also in January, a tourism business forum will be held with the presentation of new tourist routes “Unknown Russia” and routes for Austrian fans on the occasion of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

A symposium “Tourism of the Future” is planned for the spring in Moscow and the participation of Russian regions in an exhibition on mountain tourism technologies in Innsbruck. In the summer, a gastronomic marathon with a presentation of national cuisines will take place in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, and next fall a summit of winemakers will be held in Sochi and the famous Vienna Museum Albertina will bring an exhibition of works by Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt and Oskar Kokoschka to the Russian capital. In addition, during the year, several dozen more conferences, meetings, tours and forums for journalists, businessmen and cultural figures will be held in Saratov and Yekaterinburg, Yelets, Linz and Baden and in other cities and regions.

As Gerald Böhm, head of the ATOR, told the ATOR Bulletin, Austria has extensive experience in tourism, in serving guests from all over the world, in the creation and development of ski and spa resorts, in the construction of hotels and other tourist facilities, including using “ green technologies, as well as in such areas as IT technologies and tourism marketing.
“At the same time, it is important that our initiatives and exchange of experience are bilateral. We have a lot to learn from each other,” emphasized Gerald Böhm.

The coming year 2017 will be a cross year of tourism between Russia and Austria. This was officially announced on Wednesday at the Russian Embassy in Vienna, where Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Alla Manilova and her Austrian counterpart Elisabeth Udolph-Strobl signed a joint statement and program of the main events of the year.

“I won’t hide that we negotiated for many weeks and months with the support of our Austrian colleagues,” Russian Ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lyubinsky said before the ceremony. He admitted that the very fact of signing documents on holding a year of tourism became a dream come true for him.

The ambassador clarified that the signed plan is preliminary in nature and is open to initiatives from both Russian and Austrian organizations. “The program is a living document, and new initiatives will appear on both our sides, which both Moscow and Vienna will support,” Lyubinsky said.

Alla Manilova reported that the year received support from the UN. The Director General of the UN World Tourism Organization, Taleb Rifai, confirmed his participation in the official ceremony scheduled for January 12 in Vienna. The opening of the year itself will be essentially a 3-day Russian-Austrian tourism forum, which will be attended by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, ministers of culture and tourism of a number of Russian regions, governors and vice-governors of regions aimed at tourism cooperation with Austria. The North Caucasus and Krasnodar region plan to strengthen ties with Tyrol in the field of mountain tourism. A presentation of new Russian programs for tourists from Austria is expected - first of all, these are the regions of the Center and North-West of Russia, river tourism, cultural routes to the estates of Russian cultural figures, trips to Baikal and Kamchatka. And on January 12, a gala concert will be held in the former imperial Hofburg Palace, where the laureates of the last Tchaikovsky Competition will perform.

In December, a special office for promoting tourism to Russia will open in Vienna - Visit Russia. And for the year, according to the program, many events are envisaged - from a special Imperial Ball in Baden to weeks of tourism in different regions of Russia and Austria, presentation of specialized routes from those dedicated to Russian and Austrian composers to wellness routes. A joint festival of small tourist towns is planned for July-August in Yelets.

“We will particularly focus our attention on areas of activity where there are similarities in landscapes and products. We will be talking about topics such as mountain and sports tourism and, of course, urban and cultural tourism,” said Udolf-Strobl.
Manilova emphasized the partnership nature of the upcoming events. "Both sides understand that this is a two-way street," she said. “Of course, we want to have more Austrian tourists. Of course, we want to have Austrian investments in tourism. But at the same time, we understand that Austria needs, with our help, to overcome the negative trend that has emerged in our bilateral tourism flows," added the Deputy Minister. For this, she said, it is planned to promote new tourist routes - “so that tourists go not only to Vienna and Salzburg.” The same applies to Russia. “We have one limiting factor: we do not promote Russia well,” she said.

In late spring or early summer, Moscow will host ceremonial events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the diplomatic mission of Baron Sigismund von Herberstein, who arrived in Russia in 1517 as an envoy of Emperor Maximillian and left the famous "Rerum Moscoviticarum Commentarii", known in Russia as " Notes on Muscovy" is one of the important sources on the history of Rus' in the late Middle Ages.

Cultural events will also be held as part of the year of tourism. The most significant of them is an exhibition from the Albertina Museum in Moscow's Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, dedicated to the art of Vienna at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, especially the works of Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. This exhibition is scheduled to open in October 2017 and will run until January 2018.

The foreign ministries of the two countries have already exchanged notes on visa issues, which should stimulate the issuance of six-month visas for tourists.

At the same time, officials emphasized the non-political nature of tourism. “Politics affects tourism only in one case: Russian tourists do not want to travel to countries where they may expect an unfriendly attitude towards themselves. Austria is not one of these countries. Austria has a great attitude towards Russian tourists!” said Manilova.

The Minister of Culture and Tourism Development of Greece Elena Koundura is visiting Moscow, taking part in the opening ceremony of the Cross Year of Tourism Greece-Russia 2017-2018

A joint statement on holding the Cross Year of Tourism was signed on September 19, 2017 at the Expocentre Fairgrounds by the Greek Minister of Tourism Elena Kundura and the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Alla Manilova.

They also formed a preliminary plan for bilateral programs and projects for the development of Russian-Greek tourism.

During the opening ceremony, the Commissioners of the Cross Year from both sides noted the fact of the spiritual closeness of the two peoples, their centuries-old cultural and historical ties.

The Russia-Greece Cross Year of Tourism 2017–2018 was initiated by the Greek side in continuation of the successfully held Russia-Greece Cross Year 2016. Last year, the ministries implemented a large-scale program of events in the field of culture and tourism: more than 50 projects were prepared in the field of musical and theatrical arts, cinematography, exhibition exchanges, science and research, cultural, educational and pilgrimage tourism, interregional cooperation.

Among the events planned during the Cross Year of Tourism are participation in the development and promotion of a cultural route within the framework of the Council of Europe project “Shrines of Undivided Christianity,” a Russian-Greek gastronomic week, and the joint organization of a regatta in the Ionian Sea and in Sochi.

As A. Manilova noted, the Russia-Greece Cross Year 2016 brought noticeable results. “We recorded an increase in mutual tourist flows at the end of 2016. The number of Greek tourists in Russia increased by 8%, Russian - by 23%, according to the Greek National Tourism Organization, 850 thousand Russians visited this country,” said the Deputy Minister.

Alla Manilova also recalled that in the first half of 2017 the number of Russian tourists in Greece increased by another 16%.

The year of tourism is starting from a very positive base. We expect from it a visible, significant, perhaps even radical increase in tourist flows. But behind this is not only the millions that tourists bring into the coffers of the two countries. This is live communication between our citizens, learning about history, culture, nature, traditions, and strengthening friendship. This is an opportunity to give our countries a powerful impetus for mutual development,” she said, also noting that holding cross tourism years often leads to moves towards facilitating visa procedures. Thus, last year the Greek side, faced with an increase in demand, reduced the period for issuing visas to Russians, increased the number of visa centers, and began issuing multiple-entry visas more often.

After a truly successful 2016, we decided to hold a Cross Year of Tourism between the two countries in 2017–2018. It will be a wonderful year filled with activities. I am sure that tourism unites people and unites nations. We have already developed a program of events that will be held in different regions of Russia and Greece,” said Greek Minister of Tourism E. Koundura.

She also noted that this year Russia and Greece joined the executive board of the UNWTO (World Tourism Organization), a specialized intergovernmental agency of the UN system that unites 156 countries.

We wanted to thank Russia for its support during the vote. Both our countries are now in leading positions in this organization, this imposes additional responsibility on us, but will also bring undoubted benefits,” the Greek minister emphasized.

On the evening of September 19, a gala reception was held at the Greek Embassy in Russia to mark the opening of the Greece-Russia Cross Year of Tourism 2017–2018.

The highlight of the ceremony was the performance of the musical group Georgios Katsaros- famous Greek musician and songwriter, artistic director of the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Athens.
