Equipment for catching carp with boilies. How to catch carp with boilies and prepare fishing equipment Read more about what boilies are

The bait, called “boilies,” came to our fishermen in the 80s from Europe. There, fishermen began to make a mixture of soy and corn flour, eggs and semolina. By rolling quite large balls out of it and boiling them, fishermen received excellent bait for large fish. Small fish simply had no chance of swallowing such a ball.

Boilies are bait made from protein balls. But the shape is not a significant factor in fishing; it can be pyramids, cones or capsules. It is important that this is bait for large fish: carp, carp, etc.

But the size of the boilies matters:

  • Carp, bream and tench are caught using small protein rounds (diameter 5-10 mm);
  • with balls with a diameter of 12 to 20 mm they go for Amur carp and carp;
  • bait with a diameter of 30 mm or more is needed for fishing for large specimens.

Operating principles of boilies

Unlike float fishing, the bait is not located on the hook itself, but behind it. It is attached to it with a hair and does not arouse suspicion in the fish, but makes it impossible for the prey to completely swallow the bait. The hook catches on the lip and a notch occurs. And then it’s a matter of luck and professionalism of the fisherman.

How to catch more fish?

I have been active fishing for quite some time and have found many ways to improve the bite. But it was and remains the most effective.

It attracts fish in cold and warm water with the help of pheromones included in the composition and stimulates their appetite. Suitable for both summer and winter fishing.

Now about the hair equipment itself. Its components:

  • self-lead;
  • hook;
  • boyle.

When fishing with hair rigs, self-cutting rigs are usually used. The hook with the boilie is rigidly connected to the sinker. Having found the bait, the prey grabs it along with the hook, but the massive sinker leaves no other options except to hook itself. Since the point of the hook is open, and the line is tense due to the weight of the sinker, the carp is not often able to spit out the hook.

Features of the manufacture and use of boilies

There is a popular myth among fishermen that boilies last a long time. But can food that includes, for example, eggs or flour be stored for a long time? The answer is negative.

This means that the boilie contains so many preservatives that it will impress not only us, but also the carp, or carp, and all those who stand in line for the boilie. You can try making a boilie yourself; clean, homemade goodies will please the fish much more.

To prepare 1 kg of mixture you need to take:

  • corn and soy flour, 400 and 200 grams, respectively;
  • 150 grams of semolina;
  • 50 grams of roasted sunflower seeds;
  • 50 grams of roasted hemp seeds;
  • 100 grams of milk protein;
  • as a preservative – 50 grams of salt;
  • 15 ml betaine (buy it at a pharmacy or fishing store);
  • 8 pcs. eggs;
  • food coloring.

This is not the only recipe for making boilies. You can find many of them on the Internet. Choose the one that suits you.

Algorithm for preparing boilies:

  1. Break the eggs and crack until a homogeneous mixture is formed.
  2. Add flavorings, betaine, food coloring.
  3. Slowly add thickeners (cereals, flour), stirring the mixture constantly.
  4. Roll out the dough into balls of the required diameter.
  5. Boil the required number of balls for 2 minutes in a colander placed in boiling water. Don't overcook it!
  6. Store the remaining balls in the freezer of the refrigerator.

In stores you can buy boilies of various flavors and colors. But most often, fishermen make boilies at home on their own. Some of them are designed to attract large fish, and some are used as bait.

Bait boilies are:

  • floating;
  • drowning.

Belonging to a specific species depends on the manufacturing method and composition of the boilie. Sinking balls are obtained if, after rolling, they are boiled or frozen.

You can perform both procedures together sequentially. It will be hard and will be able to lie on the bottom for quite a long time, waiting for large fish.

Floating boilies are steamed in the microwave, so they are light, fluffy and buoyant. But such a boilie does not hold its shape for long, disintegrating in water.

Flavors for boilies at home:

  1. Sunflower seeds. They must be fried. Before adding them to the boilie bait, they are ground. The seeds can be replaced with oil cake or unrefined sunflower oil.
  2. Peanut. It also requires frying and grinding first.
  3. Coconut flakes, toasted sesame.
  4. Garlic. A clove of garlic is finely chopped or crushed and added to the boilie mixture.
  5. Dill or black currant leaves, mint, lemongrass. Finely chop and add to the mixture.
  6. Seasonings. You can use any seasonings that you can buy in the store: coriander, basil, ginger, cumin, cinnamon.
  7. Cocoa and coffee.
  8. Deeps. For 1 kg of dry boilie mixture, add 5–7 ml of dip.

How to fish with mini boilies?

This is the case when the rule “small boilies - a small fish, large boilies - a large fish” does not work.

Mini boilies are balls measuring 5–12 mm in diameter. They work like grain bait. But there are a lot of grains in the feeding area, and, of course, there are fewer boilies. Carps are in a hurry to catch bright balls, and in their haste they forget about caution. Some of the balls turn out to be bait with a hook.

With this bait you can catch quite large fish.

When choosing between ready-made mini boilies and homemade ones, give preference to ready-made ones, for example, from Top Secret or Pelzer Baits.

When fishing with mini boilies on small balls, you also need small hooks. You can use No. 8 or 10. It is better to attach a boilie with neutral buoyancy to the hair rig (consists of two boilies: sinking and floating). For bait, the balls are served with a “rocket” if the feeding area is far away or with a bait spoon if it is close.

How to catch carp with boilies? All about equipment

Hook. You should definitely pay attention to ensure that it is always sharp and catches the prey well.

When using a hair rig, the hook must correspond to:

  • nozzle size;
  • the size of the expected production.

Hooks with an open tip (the tip of the hook is parallel to the fore-end) should be used in fishing areas with a clean, unscrambled bottom. If we are fishing on a reservoir with flooded trees and branches, it is recommended to use a hook with a sting curved towards the fore-end. This will help avoid snags.

In opaque water, bright pink, white or yellow balls will be more visible. On light sand, dark balls are more noticeable.

You can use sinking or floating ones, or you can use a so-called neutrally buoyant boilie, consisting of a sinking and floating boilie.

Depending on the type of boilie, you need to select a hook.

If the boilie is floating, then we take a special hook, the sting of which is located from the fore-end at a slightly greater distance than in a regular hook, and the fore-end itself is small. Bottom-feeding fish take the bait above the bottom and may miss, but a wider hook will help to catch the carp by the lip.

For boilies with neutral buoyancy, hooks with a closed tip are usually chosen.

Carp like boilies containing protein and protein, flavorings and activators.

The best bait balls and bait balls for carp and carp are offered by the following manufacturing companies: Prologic; Mainline; Tandem Baits; Nutrabaits.

How to catch carp with boilies?

Catching carp with boilies is possible throughout the summer and autumn until the onset of deep cold weather. Then the fish goes to deeper places or hides in snag waters.

They use boilies with a diameter of more than 20 mm, so that small fish are discouraged from feasting on the bait.

Fishing with boilies for carp differs from fishing for other fish only in slightly different equipment. Usually the sinker is tightly attached to the equipment. Grabbing the bait with the boilie and dragging it to the side, the carp hooks itself. The weight of the sinker is selected depending on the strength of the current and fishing conditions.

How to catch bream with boilies?

Bream is a very careful fish. You can't catch him without bait. It is undesirable to use porridge; you need to lure it, not feed it. And for bait, it will be effective to use flavors with the smells of spices, cocoa, strawberries, etc. Bait balls are thrown upstream. Using feeders will be more effective.

The bait boilies themselves need to be small – 12-16 mm. The rig for bream differs little from the rig for carp. Only the hook should be smaller. Sometimes the feeder is used as a load, but this is not always convenient.

How to catch grass carp with boilies?

Grass carp is one of the largest representatives of aquatic fauna. Cunning and careful. In addition, he is a big gourmet. It's not easy to catch him. It doesn’t come across boilies often either. But you can try.

Use this recipe for making boilies at home:

  • Soy and corn flour – 20% each;
  • Semolina – 40%;
  • Powdered milk – 15%;
  • Powdered sugar – 5%;
  • Binding base: for 1 kg of dry mixture – 10 eggs, 3 tbsp. l. sunflower oil.
  • Add flavoring and coloring. The mixture is ready.

Roll the resulting dough into balls with a diameter of 3 cm, cook for 2-3 minutes and dry.

The most effective way to catch carp is to use a floating boilie. When preparing the tackle, pay attention to the need to attach an additional leash 5-6 centimeters long to the fishing line, not far from the hook. The boilie and a heavy pellet will be attached to this leash to keep the boilie floating.

I repeat that catching grass carp with a boilie is a great success, he is very careful. But the more difficult the problem, the more pleasant it is to find its solution.

Beginning fishermen, when going fishing, are ready to catch any fish, as long as there is a bite. But an experienced fisherman already has his own preferences, knowledge of the habits of certain types of fish and methods of catching them. Knowing the peculiarities of fishing with boilies, you can choose the type of future prey and its “caliber” yourself.

Happy fishing.

How long has it been since you had a really BIG CATCH?

When was the last time you caught dozens of HUGE pike/carp/bream?

We always want to get results from fishing - to catch not three perch, but ten kilogram pikes - what a catch! Each of us dreams of this, but not everyone can do it.

A good catch can be achieved (and we know this) thanks to good bait.

It can be prepared at home or bought in fishing stores. But stores are expensive, and to prepare bait at home, you need to spend a lot of time, and, to tell the truth, homemade bait does not always work well.

You know that disappointment when you buy bait or prepare it at home and only catch three or four bass?

So maybe it’s time to use a truly working product, the effectiveness of which has been proven both scientifically and in practice on the rivers and ponds of Russia?

It gives the same result that we cannot achieve on our own, especially since it is cheap, which distinguishes it from other means and there is no need to spend time on production - you order it, it’s delivered and you’re good to go!

Of course, it is better to try once than to hear a thousand times. Moreover, now is the season! This is a great bonus when ordering!

Find out more about the bait!

Boilies are dough balls that were named after the production of this bait. The name comes from the English word “boil”, this is the process of preparing boilies. Thus, this classic method of preparation gives boilies their name.

Currently, two types of boilies are produced, sinking and floating. Floating boilies are called pop-ups, from the English word “pop-up” - pop-up. But it is a mistake to think that dough balls boil in water. In fact, boiling occurs with steam. Therefore, boilies are not just boiled, they are steamed, and due to this, boilies have a completely different structure than dough boiled in water. This is the case with the preparation of classic, sinking boilies.

What are floating boilies?

Floating boilies differ from sinking boilies in the way they are produced. Pop-ups can now be bought in fishing stores; their selection is quite large. But as you know, these boilies are made using standard technologies, so the differences between them are not great. Basically these are standard shapes and standard smells.

Boilies prepared by fishermen have a better quality of fish response to the bait. And the essence of this is that the fisherman creating a certain type of boilie knows what smell and taste the fish in this particular region will react to. Therefore, as a rule, homemade boilies are superior in performance to branded ones.

But this does not mean that you should ignore purchased boilies. The companies that create this product are based on practice and testing of boilies in real conditions. This is why some branded baits are so highly valued among fishermen. And only copies, so-called fakes, out of ignorance, can provoke a fisherman’s refusal to use them. Therefore, you need to be careful when choosing and using boilies for fishing.

And the main difference between floating boilies and sinking boilies. Pop-ups are created by using high temperatures and are prepared using microwave ovens. They are dried using high-frequency currents. Therefore, the structure of floating boilies is based on the presence of air layers in the structure of the product. This achieves the buoyancy effect of the boilie.

When self-producing pop-ups, there is another option to enhance the buoyancy of the boilie. A piece of cork from a banal bottle of imported wine is rolled into the dough into a ball. At the same time, the buoyancy of the boilie increases by 2-3 times, and it can be used when making sandwiches and balancing bait.

What are floating boilies for?

Pop-ups are used for several reasons. Firstly, floating boilies allow the fisherman to adapt to the conditions of fishing for carp and some other types of fish. In popular parlance, this means that you can catch fish in almost any body of water with pop-ups.

That is, even if there is a large loose layer of silt in the lake, the floating boilies will not burrow into it. With the correct choice of leash length, pop-ups will always be raised above the level of bottom sediments. And since they are visible to carp or other fish, it means they will attract attention. Draw your own conclusion.

Also, floating boilies are a good bait in the current. Raised from the bottom, they seem to play on the current, attracting attention to themselves. Moreover, they will attract large fish, carp or bream, while they will scare away small ones. In very turbid water, boilies also have a greater advantage over other baits. Having a very strong smell, they will create a large cloud of tempting aroma around themselves. Moreover, with his excellent sense of smell and vision, boilies will be a good bait for catching carp.

What is the best boilie installation?

You can discuss this topic endlessly. As practice has shown, it is best to use classic hair installation. It is very convenient because you can ideally position the floating boilie at the required distance from the bottom. For this, the sandwich principle is used, when floating and sinking boilies alternate.

With this combination, you can ideally present a delicacy to the carp. And let's hope he appreciates your efforts to meet with him. The main thing is the length of the leash, which is usually made from 20 to 30 cm. In this case, it is necessary to make a shipment, which is selected experimentally. This plays a big role, then the boilies are a few centimeters from the bottom.

One or more boilies per hair?

Here, as they say, there are no friends according to taste. You need to try different options. Somebody will shoot. Carp is a difficult fish; today it will be caught with half a boilie, and tomorrow it will want a whole garland of boilies. The ideal option is to have 3-4 rods and load them with different designs. At the first bite, you can safely use this number of boilies on all other rods.

Boilies are a versatile bait for carp fishing for several reasons: you can vary the composition, taste, color, size, and buoyancy. As many as 5 parameters, where have you seen such a variety of baits? In addition to this, carp really like boilies. So there is no choice - we catch carp with boilies, and how to prepare them and other nuances - below.

How to make boilies yourself

A detailed guide to preparing boilies at home has already become popular on our website.

The entire preparation of boilies consists of 5 stages:

  1. The base is made - a dry mixture.
  2. The liquid part of the mixture is made.
  3. Both parts are mixed.
  4. Make sausages from the resulting dough, cut them and roll each piece into a ball. In order not to be distracted by catching small fish, make balls with a diameter of at least a centimeter for crucian carp, 2.5 cm for carp.
  5. The balls are dried for several days (or frozen).

Boilie recipes

Dough
  1. Dough recipe. Mix 200 g soy flour and 200 g corn flour. Add 200 g of milk powder and 400 g of semolina, 20 powdered sugar. Mix everything until you get a homogeneous mixture. Add 10 eggs (be sure to be fresh!), a teaspoon of dye, 3 tablespoons of sunflower oil, and a little flavoring. Mix it all thoroughly. Now you can make balls.
  2. Test recipe No. 2. Dry base: ground bird food – 200 g; corn, rice, wheat flour - 1 kg each; powdered milk - 800 g. Liquid mixture: eggs at the rate of 10 pieces per 1 kg, 10 ml of flavoring, 1 teaspoon of dye, 3 tablespoons of sunflower oil.
Add buoyancy/heaviness
  1. To prepare floating boilies, you do not need to boil the balls. Microwave them. They will become light and fluffy, and as a result, buoyant. Disadvantage: such boilies do not maintain the ball shape for long. Prepare them exactly as much as you need for today.
  2. To prepare sinking boilies, the balls are boiled or placed in the freezer. When they become hard as a rock, you can start fishing for carp.
The color of the boilies is very important. The greatest catch is on balls of red, white, yellow, and purple colors. In a muddy body of water, preference should be given to light shades of these colors, in a transparent body - dark.
Mini boilies at home

For summer mini-boilies when fishing for crucian carp, we recommend using dough made from dark bread, flavored with garlic juice. The juice is easy to obtain using a garlic press. You can also add unrefined sunflower oil.

Finding a fishing spot

  1. To get started, please read the following guide. It will reveal the secrets of choosing a place and time to catch carp.
  2. Then carefully study the body of water in which you are going to fish. Track the splash points of the carp - these will be bait spots.
  3. Good catches can be obtained in riffles and bays, in creeks, and in places where lilies and reeds grow.
  4. If this is a private pond, ask what the owner feeds the fish and draw a conclusion about the optimal composition of the test.
  5. If there are shells in the pond, you should make boilies based on fishmeal with flavors that smell like mussels, squid, and shells.

Lure

In cold water, be sure to use animal-based bait

How to properly feed carp using the feeder method is described here.

  1. Place the bait directly next to the bait. PVA bags that dissolve in water and are filled with dry bait or boilies are perfect for this purpose. The sinker is placed inside the package. The best composition of bait: one third of the volume - boilies of different sizes, the rest - pellets, baize mixture, grain, additives.
  2. The amount of bait depends on the saturation of the reservoir with fish, temperature, accuracy and systematic feeding. Its main purpose is to constantly keep the fish in your fishing spot. Start with a starting feed of 1-2 kilograms. After an hour there is no bite - add another 1 kilogram. And so on, progressively, until the fish starts biting.
  3. Has the bite stopped? The carp has eaten all the bait - start feeding again.
  4. If you are seriously going to fish in a pond, then you need to regularly bait the fish with 10-20 boilies during the day or evening.

How to increase your fish catch?

Over 7 years of active fishing, I have found dozens of ways to improve the bite. Here are the most effective ones:

  1. Bite activator. This pheromone additive attracts fish most strongly in cold and warm water. Discussion of the bite activator “Hungry Fish”.
  2. Increased gear sensitivity. Read the appropriate manuals for your specific type of gear.
  3. Pheromone-based lures.

Carp tackle

If you are new to carp fishing, first read the guide on feeder rods. These are strong, powerful fishing rods that will allow you to throw heavy feeders or sinkers to the desired fishing point. Time after time you will hit the target exactly.

Carp equipment

  • The most popular carp rig is the Method. If you are a complete beginner and don’t want to spend money on a professional feeder, start with a paternoster (incredibly light equipment).
  • We recommend using leadcore in your rigs. This will sink the line to the bottom and will not allow the carp to be frightened by accidental contact, and will also protect it from rubbing against stones and other sharp objects in the water during fishing.
  • Don't be afraid and cast far, because you are using a shock leader, even the heaviest weights.
  • The figure eight knot will be useful to you in many cases to tie the leash to the main fishing line.
  • The most popular installation of boilies is the hair rig. It does not cause any suspicion in the fish. The hook occurs at the moment when the fish tries to spit out the hook. To make a leash, we use a braided line, put a silicone stopper on it and tie a sharp, strong hook. We pierce the boilie with a needle and place it on the braid. We secure it with a piece of a match so that it does not fly off, and thread the hook into a thin silicone tube. We pull the free end of the leash into the shackle of the hook, make a few turns on the fore-end, thread it through the shackle again, tighten it, and attach the swivel to it. We place a rubber tube on the swivel and keep it under steam to make it sit. To ensure that the tackle was stronger, we lubricate the knots with glue. The leash size is 20 centimeters.

Little tricks

  • Big fish sometimes bite better on half boilies. Cut each boilie in half and place the halves on the hair back to back. You can use each half separately. The halves can come in different sizes, flavors and colors.
  • You can use a blade to remove the top layer of boilies in some places. This way we will enhance its taste and smell, and make it more believable in its uneven shape.
  • You can fantastically increase the attractiveness of boilies to fish by soaking them in dips (liquid flavorings). This bait creates a whole cloud of aromas around itself that attracts fish.
  • Use polarized glasses to spot carp near the surface of the water; look down on the pond.

Features of catching carp and other fish with boilies

Dough is the most democratic of vegetable baits. In almost any kitchen there are ingredients to prepare an attachment according to one recipe or another. But for a long time, carp anglers could not adapt the dough to catch their trophies: carp, carp, silver carp and grass carp. There are too many small creatures hungry for soft bait in our reservoirs. So we had to catch these types of carp fish using mastyrka, peas, corn, potatoes and other baits.

On the other hand, carp’s love for sucking up goodies, such as cake, has long been known, which became the reason for creating a macaque. But when the dough mixed with egg whites was boiled for the first time, the result was a symbiosis of dough and sucker. The new bait was dubbed boilie, which translated from English means “cooked.”

So, what is a boilie? It is a boiled ball of dough prepared for fishing according to a special recipe. Currently, in carp fishing - carp fishing - boilies for carp fishing as bait have no rivals. Fish can be caught using delicious balls throughout the entire period of open water, in spring, summer, and autumn.

Lovers of tasty balls

In addition to carp fishing, it is possible to successfully catch carp with boilies, as well as the Far Eastern guests: silver carp and grass carp, which are now being bred en masse on “pay zones”. These giants of the carp family are also not averse to eating tasty balls, especially since with the modern development of the fishing bait industry, it will not be difficult to choose a boilie to suit the taste of any underwater inhabitant.

Even for catfish, some companies produce these baits in meat, fish or seafood flavors. Amateur fishermen are not far behind - they make and cook catfish balls with their own hands.

Catching crucian carp with boilies also seems interesting. The peculiarity of such fishing is to reduce the size of the ball; its minimum diameter should not be less than six millimeters, and the maximum should be one and a half centimeters. Using mini boilies, we cut off small crucian carp, so that only solid specimens will be in the catch. On the other hand, crucian carp, unlike carp, love soft baits.

Varieties

Demand creates supply, and therefore there are many companies on the bait market that produce boilies for carp. Below is a list of the most popular manufacturing companies:

  • Richworth;
  • CC More;
  • funfishing;
  • Tandem;
  • Dynamite;
  • Mainline;
  • ProLogyc;
  • RodHutchinson

But, of course, we don’t forget the best manufacturer - the fisherman himself, who is able in his kitchen to make the most delicious balls for carp, carp, grass carp and silver carp from flour, eggs and other ingredients.

By the way! It is incorrect to call silver carp "silver carp". There are no such fish in our reservoirs!

Feeding

In the spring, as the water warms, the fish begin to fatten up after a long winter and in anticipation of spawning. And, consequently, carp fishing with boilies begins. Before catching carp with boilies, before the first cast, you need to feed the area and install the gear.

Following the principle: “What you feed is what you catch,” we feed the future fishing spot using bait boilies. In order to deliver bait boilies to the fishing point, a special curved plastic tube, the so-called “cobra,” is used. Bait balls are poured into it, then with a sharp wave of the hand with a “cobra” clamped in it, the bait is sent to the selected point.

The second way to use boilies for bait is to crush them and add them to the dry mixture. Of course, you can crush the balls with a hammer, but it is better to use a boilie chopper or crusher. It is a pair of plastic containers with spikes. When the two halves of the container are connected, the boilie grinder crushes the balls to add particles to the mixture.

Installation of equipment

In order for carp fishing with boilies to be effective, it is necessary to correctly install the equipment elements; in our case, we are considering equipment for boilies. Boiled balls differ from other baits in that they do not need to be literally placed on a hook; hair equipment is used to mount them.

To carry out installation we will need:

  • boilie;
  • hook;
  • hair - thread or fishing line;
  • thin drill;
  • needle;
  • stopper;
  • cambric.
  1. We tie the hook using a knotless connection, leaving part of the fishing line under the “hair”. In another version, the hook is tied with a simple knot. Then the “hair” needs to be knitted separately to the ring.
  2. We put a cambric on the shank of the hook, placing it at the beginning of the bend.
  3. We pass the “hair” through the cambric.
  4. From the “hair” passed through the cambric we knit a loop, slightly longer than the diameter of the ball.
  5. Using a drill (by the way, the drill and needle come as a set) we make a through hole in the boilie.
  6. We thread the needle through the hole, put a loop over its bend and pull the loop through the nozzle.
  7. Insert a boilie stopper into the loop. It is made of silicone and is sold in fishing stores, but instead of a stopper you can use pieces of matches, toothpicks, or blades of grass. Installation is complete!

This procedure can be carried out in a different sequence: first knit a loop on the fishing line, then tie a hook, and at the end put the boilie on the “hair”. But this does not change the essence of the installation.

If fishing conditions suggest the presence of a muddy bottom in a reservoir, you have to knit so-called “snowmen” from a pair of boilies: a sinking one and a floating one. Sometimes the balls are cut in half, folded together and attached with the flat parts of the hemispheres to each other.

Fishing tactics

You can fish with boilies both in spring and autumn, the main thing is to choose them correctly according to the time of year and fishing conditions, tie them correctly, and also deliver them to the carp, silver carp or grass carp at the bait table.

Having found a tasty ball in the water, the carp begins to suck it up, while a nearby hook is pulled into its mouth. Spitting out the unpleasant piece of iron, the carp catches itself in the lower lip. Now it’s up to the fisherman: he needs to make a timely hook, and then competently land a large fish. There are practically no spontaneous accidents in this fishing, with the exception of fishing gear in bushes, grass or snags.

If everything is done correctly, you will be rewarded with an unforgettable trophy!

Boilies for carp - how and what to catch? DIY recipes, equipment and fishing gear

Fishing for carp requires preparation. It is worth considering that carp is a capricious and cautious fish. Therefore, to increase the chance of catching, many anglers experiment with different types of bait. One of the most popular baits for carp are boilies.

Boilies are a concentrated mixture of ingredients, which are mixed and prepared using a specially developed technology and are a universal bait for catching carp. Translated from English, the word boil means “cook”, “boil”.

They are divided into 3 types: ground bait, sinking and floating. When fishing for carp, sinking boilies have proven themselves to be the best. As you know, carp stay in the bottom layers of water and feed on small shells and other sediments. That is why the best way to attract fish is by bottom fishing.

The variety of such boilies depends on the recipe and cooking technique. Drowning fish are first boiled and then frozen. When cast, the bait retains its shape and is able to stay in the water for a long time, luring carp.

Floating ones are cooked in the microwave. They are distinguished by lightness and splendor, allowing them to float on the surface of the water. However, such boilies are not durable and quickly crumble when wet.

Bait baits are similar to drowning baits. They differ only in their stronger aromatic composition.

There is another type of boilies that is gaining more and more popularity - dusty ones. They differ from others in their behavior in water. When cast, a regular boilie gives off only the aroma emanating from it, while a dusty boilie is slowly dispersed, particle by particle, into the water column.

Some of it crumbles to the bottom, and some is carried near the location of the bait. This scattering process takes about 3 hours and the approaching fish can live in the casting area for a long time, since the particles of such boilie do not saturate the fish.

For carp fishing, the diameter of the boilie should not exceed 15-18 mm. Most often, this depends on the weight of the supposedly inhabited carp in a given water area. Another important factor is color. It is most often chosen depending on the clarity of the water. The best boilies, according to fishermen's surveys, are the following colors: purple, yellow, white and red.

In terms of their composition, boilies are also different. Store-bought and artificial ones will not give ideal results when fishing for carp. They mainly contain combination mixtures of breadcrumbs, fish meal, birdseed and flavorings. Homemade baits are recommended.

DIY boilies

The entire preparation stage is divided into 5 points, namely: preparing the dry mixture, preparing the liquid with the addition of flavors, rolling into balls and the drying or freezing process.

The dry mixture is prepared by mixing various ingredients. For spring and autumn, the following composition is recommended. Corn flour - 400 grams, wheat flour - 400 grams, soy flour - 400-500 grams, depending on the amount of bait.

Also, to this composition you can add 4-7 eggs, a few drops of sunflower oil and a teaspoon of dye, which will give the desired color to the future boilie. All these ingredients are mixed and diluted with a small amount of water to give the finished mass a plastic shape.

Next, the resulting dough is rolled into balls with a diameter of 10 to 20 mm and boiled in boiling water for 2-2.5 minutes. Then everything is taken out and dried or frozen. This will result in sinking boilies. If you need to make them floating, then the finished balls are placed in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, and then fried in a frying pan for about another 10-15 minutes.

After this, they take it out and throw a couple of balls into a container of water to check.

For summer fishing, boilies include the following mixtures: soy and corn flour 1 kg each, semolina 150 grams, rice cereal 200 grams, milk powder 500 grams, or milk protein 150-200 grams, dyes and flavors. You can also add 50 grams of hemp grain, 5 to 9 eggs, salt, sugar, a tablespoon each, and 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil.

Just as in the case of the autumn and spring composition, the ingredients are crushed, mixed with water and a dough is prepared, which is then boiled or cooked in the microwave, depending on the type of boilie.

The fisherman's first task is to understand the composition of the mixture for preparation. Experienced carp anglers, before preparing for fishing, ask local fishermen of a given reservoir about the behavior of carp based on the type of bait or bait.

Owners of private ponds for breeding carp fish species also need to clarify what is included in the main carp food. Only after this, a conclusion and analysis of future ingredients for the preparation of carp boilies is made.

Rolling boilies into balls

There are 2 methods for rolling boilies: rolling by hand and using a special table. To roll by hand, the fisherman will have to make balls by eye, trying to fit them to certain parameters.

Also, this process takes a long time and is considered a dirty method. When rolling on a table, specific nozzles with a diameter of 14 mm and above are used. To do this, you need to put the dough into a special gun and squeeze the resulting mass onto the table.

After this, all that remains is to roll out the dough. The balls will have the same mass and diameter.

Equipment

knitting hair snap

For catching carp with boilies, there are several equipment, such as hairline, feeder, float and others, invented by fishermen and improved for a better catch of worthy specimens of carp.

It is known that when fishing with boilies, the bait itself, due to its hard state and size, is not attached to the hook. For such a case, English fishermen came up with an effective remedy, the so-called hair or hair equipment. This rig requires a thin piece of braided fishing line, 3-5 centimeters long, which is attached to a hook and loop. From 1 to 3 boilies are attached to the hair.

The bait should be lowered into the bottom layers of water so that the carp can easily detect and grab it. In action, such equipment works like this: the carp, noticing the bait, sucks it in, and to make sure there is no catch, spits it out. This way the carp can try this bait several times. If it sucks in a hair, then the bare hook, following the boilie, will also rush into the mouth, and it will be impossible for the carp to spit it out.

It is very important that the hook has a sharp tip and is free of rust, as its smell can scare away the fish. The hook size is usually from 10 to 16 numbers and is made of especially strong steel. Installation of hair equipment can be varied.

The most common is knotless installation, which is when the boilie is attached without various additional devices. The second type is a reverse strike. It provides for a greater depth of the hook in the fish's mouth.

Installation method 3 is the D-Rig equipment. With such equipment, a boilie with a hook has a certain range of movement when the fish tries to spit it out. And one more equipment is hard. This type of rig occurs when the hook and bait are too close to each other.

Another common type of carp fishing is using a feeder rig. Unlike hair, it has a number of vulnerabilities. A carp angler, as a rule, hunts for a large trophy, and the presence of food in the feeder can attract small fish, which will provoke false bites.

The basis of such equipment is practically no different from hair equipment. The only thing is that this equipment uses a feeder with food. It is also recommended to use bait boilies as complementary food.

The attachment to the hair is carried out using an awl. A hole is pierced in the boilie, through which the hair is threaded and tied or secured with a silicone stopper.

Gear and choice of fishing location

When fishing for carp, every angler must take into account its power and resistance when fishing. Therefore, when preparing for fishing, it is also necessary to take into account the strength of the gear. Carp tackle consists of a fishing rod, 1.5-3 meters long, made of durable materials and of sufficient rigidity.

Most carp anglers choose spinning rods made of duralumin and durable carbon fiber, capable of repelling large fish. A reel with high power and a large spool, sufficient to wind a decent amount of fishing line onto it.

A fishing line with a diameter of 0.30 to 0.35mm, and made of nylon thread, thanks to which it can stretch under the jerks of the carp. Leashes, preferably made of braided cord, with a diameter of 0.20 to 0.25 mm and a length of about 20 centimeters.

Also, carp gear includes feeders and strong hooks. When preparing for fishing, you need at least 3-4 rods. The rods are mounted on special slingshots and equipped with bite alarms. These can include bells, special bells and electronic alarms that are triggered when the fishing line is pulled during a bite.

Carp likes to stay in reservoirs with a complete absence of current, in thickets of reeds and the presence of a muddy bottom.

When preparing to catch carp, you need to know where the fishing process itself will take place. For this, the advice of experienced fishermen who have repeatedly visited this type of reservoir is considered an important aspect.

Also, in the early morning you can see the splashes of these giants on the surface of the water. Active feeding of carp begins at approximately 5 am and continues until lunch, but in some cases it can last until dusk. At night, carp are inactive.

Fishing with boilies

After all the preparations, arriving at the pond and choosing a fishing spot, the angler needs to make an accurate cast to the point of the carp’s intended habitat. After casting, the rod is attached to the slingshots, a bite alarm is installed and the most interesting moment begins - waiting for a bite.

The carp can look closely for a long time, try this type of boilie presented to it, but not peck. In this case, the fisherman should be patient, because sooner or later the carp will not withstand the temptation and swallow the bait, thereby provoking the long-awaited bite.

When the bite alarm goes off, you need to make sure that the fish is firmly on the hook; for this you need the alarm to go off again. After this, the hook is made with a sharp jerk and the fish begins to land.

Fishing must also occur with precision in a certain order, otherwise the fish may break loose and leave. After hooking, with a smooth movement of the hand the fish is pulled in using the rod, and then the weakened fishing line is reeled in with the other hand using the reel.

It is important that the fishing line is always taut. Carp is a strong fish, so when fishing, you also need to take a comfortable position, stand firmly on your feet and gradually exhaust it. Large specimens do not fight for a long time, and in a good situation, the long-awaited trophy ends up in the hands of the fisherman.

Large carp quite often bite on half boilies. So, as an experiment, you can put a half on 2 of the 4 fishing rods, and whole ones on the others, and in different colors, so that you can know which boilie the carp responds best to.

  1. One of the most important tips is to watch the carp during its active biting period. Also, it is necessary to study the reservoir using an echo sounder, which will help to better understand the structure of the bottom and find paths of movement from the parking area to the feeding area.
  2. Constant feeding of a certain place for future fishing is considered important. If the angler feeds the fish in the same place, it will get used to it and will constantly swim to the fishing spot to feast on it.
  3. Some carp anglers pay attention to the direction and strength of the wind blowing throughout the summer season, which shifts the carp locations downwind. And perhaps with the onset of autumn, it will no longer be difficult for the fisherman to determine a new habitat. On hot days, bubbles rising from the water in its habitat will also help you find a carp site.
  4. With the onset of a new fishing season, it is necessary to check and replace worn parts of the gear to avoid future breaks.

Catching carp with boilies. Secrets of experienced fishermen:

Fishing for carp differs from other types of fishing in some complexity associated with the selection and preparation of bait. This fish, being the head of an entire family, in addition to its authority and powerful body, has a certain intelligence that allows it to avoid primitive tricks. Because of this, the choice of bait and the method of mounting it on the hook play a key role in the outcome of the fishing trip.

Boyles

Boilies are dense balls with a diameter of 0.5-3 cm and are intended for use as bait when catching “white” fish. Depending on their purpose, their composition includes several types of flour (soybean, corn, semolina, bone or fish), various crushed cereals, egg powder, adhesive components, as well as attractants (flavors).

In the factory, these components are mixed in certain proportions and undergo a certain special heat treatment, on which their density and buoyancy depend. The finished bait balls are painted in the desired color.

They can also be prepared from improvised ingredients in the comfort of your own kitchen. Making your own boilies for carp fishing is not particularly difficult. In addition, this option will save you from unnecessary costs and searching for a suitable type of bait.

Advantages of boilies

Among existing carp baits, boilies deservedly take first place. Their shape, color and composition fully correspond to the culinary preferences of carp. They have practically replaced other plant baits used before their invention.
Today, carp fishing with boilies is considered the most effective and popular. The main advantages of this bait over others are:

  • low cost;
  • a composition that includes the most attractive products for carp;
  • Possibility of use for various types of hook mounting;
  • versatility of use;
  • resistance to deterioration in water;
  • the ability to choose the right type depending on fishing conditions

Types of boilies

All boilies, depending on their purpose, are divided into:

  • non-sinking (with a density less than water);
  • zero (neutral) buoyancy;
  • drowning;
  • dusty.

Non-sinking balls are used in reservoirs with standing water and a muddy or algae-covered bottom. The structure of such a boilie allows it to float and not bury itself in the mud. Neutral baits have zero buoyancy, which allows them to stay in the water column even without a load. Sinking boilies are used in reservoirs with a flat, hard bottom, as well as for fishing in moderate current conditions.

Catching carp with boilies requires mandatory feeding of the area. Dust balls are used precisely for this purpose. They are made in such a way that when they get into water they dissolve, forming a “cloud” of small particles of the bait mixture.

The best boilies for carp fishing

Based on their composition, boilies are divided into the following types:

  • meat containing blood or bone meal;
  • fish, which contain fishmeal;
  • spicy – with the aroma of garlic, onion, vanilla, cumin and other spices;
  • fruit - with the addition of apple, plum, strawberry, banana puree;
  • sweet, containing sugar, honey or caramel.

Considering that carp has a sweet tooth, baits with sweet and fruity flavors, namely plum, strawberry, pineapple, as well as artificial flavors “skopex” and “octopus” are best suited for fishing for them. In the spring after spawning and late autumn, it is perfectly caught using meat and fish boilies, as well as those with the smell of garlic or peppers.

Homemade boilies

Bait balls can be easily prepared in your kitchen. Making boilies for carp fishing will not take much time and money. To do this you will need the following ingredients:

  • semolina, wheat or corn flour – 200 g;
  • fish or bone meal – 200 g;
  • eggs – 5-7 pcs;
  • wheat or neigh bran – 100 g;
  • sunflower cake (makukha) – 100 g;
  • powdered milk or sports nutrition – 50 g;
  • salt – 50 g.

Salt in the bait is used as a natural preservative, which prevents boilies from deteriorating for a long time.

You can also use the following components:

  • soy flour – 300 g;
  • bird food (compound feed for chickens) – 300 g;
  • wheat flour – 100g;
  • starch – 100 g;
  • peanuts – 50g;
  • hemp seeds – 30 g;
  • salt – 50 g.

All dry ingredients need to be ground to a powdery state, and then add the eggs and knead to a very thick dough. Next, the mixture is rolled into sausages, cut into small cylinders and formed into balls of the required diameter.

After this, the future boilies are dried on a towel or napkin for at least 2 hours and boiled until a hard crust forms. The next stage of preparation is drying for 12 hours. Sinking boilies are made using this method at home.

To obtain floating balls, they are not boiled, but dried in a microwave oven until the moisture has completely evaporated.

The following boilie recipes for carp fishing are the simplest. They can be made more complex by adding various components depending on fishing conditions. For a fast flow, for example, you will definitely need gelatin or casein, which will prevent the bait from quickly dissolving. You can and even should use store-bought flavorings, as well as food coloring, to color your bait in attractive colors.

Tackle for fishing with boilies

Catching carp with boilies can be done with any design that has a hook, but the following gear is most often used:

  • feeder;
  • float tackle;
  • ordinary spinning donka;
  • donk with a rubber shock absorber;
  • "pacifier";
  • "spring".

Catching carp with boilies: hook rigging

Initially, this type of bait was intended for ordinary hooking. Over time, fishermen have improved the installation, coming up with several unusual methods, the most effective and popular of which is hair rigging. It is considered the most catchy type of fishing, such as carp fishing with boilies.
Installation of the hair rig consists of attaching a special outlet made of thin fishing line to the leash - a “hair”, onto which a boilie is attached using a broaching needle. The bait is positioned very close to the hook in such a way that the fish, feeling the bait, does not detect it.

The most common hair rigging methods are:

  • D-Rig type equipment is the most popular type of installation, providing the greatest amplitude of movement of the hook and boilie, and also eliminating the possibility for the fish to spit them out after swallowing;
  • knotless equipment – simple installation without various additional devices;
  • “reverse blow” - a type of installation in which two halves of the boilie are attached to the “hair” with their convex surfaces facing each other;
  • hard rig - a rig in which the bait is attached very close to the hook, which provides the best opportunity for timely hooking

Features of fishing with boilies

Any bottom tackle equipped with boilies significantly increases fishing efficiency due to self-hooking of fish. Swallowing such bait along with a bare hook, the carp discovers a catch, tries to spit out the bait and abruptly retreat to a safe place. But thanks to the heavy load, the sharp sting gives the carp virtually no chance to escape.

In order for carp to respond to the bait, it must not only smell good, but also be an attractive color and size. It is impossible to determine exactly which color the fish like best, but it has been noticed that in conditions of muddy and uneven bottom, brightly colored balls have proven themselves better than nondescript bait. It is also necessary to take into account the size of the bait in order to successfully catch carp with boilies. Equipping a hook with bait of a small diameter will definitely attract small things that will only get in the way. In addition, it is unlikely to attract large fish. Therefore, for carp it is customary to use balls of at least 1.2 cm in diameter.

Using boilies as bait

Experienced fishermen say that for bait you should use boilies similar to those used for bait. This, firstly, will not alert the carp, and secondly, it will not require extra costs.

To bait the fishing spot, it is better to use dusty boilies. Once in the water in a certain area, they quickly dissolve, spreading an attractive smell.

To deliver such bait to the site, you can use a special feeder if fishing is carried out with feeder gear, or use a fishing slingshot designed specifically for this purpose. If the distance is small, you can feed the area manually. Catching carp with boilies using the right bait will significantly increase your fishing efficiency.

Catching carp is considered a very interesting and exciting activity, which for some people surpasses in interest even fishing for a predator. There are a lot of features in carp fishing. The main differences lie in the gear and bait used.

Professionals distinguish two main methods of carp fishing:

  • fishing for carp with boilies;
  • fishing using feeder rigs.

Equipment

Most often, carp are caught using a hair rig. Such equipment is very easy to make and fishermen have not yet been able to come up with a more effective installation, so the advantages are obvious.

To make gear for carp fishing using boilies, you will need to stock up on some materials:

  • driving material;
  • carp hook;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • silicone tube;

Installing the equipment is quite simple, you just need to follow a certain sequence of actions and have at least a small understanding of how to tie basic fishing knots:

  1. First you need to make a loop on the leash and tie it with a triple knot.
  2. Then you need to thread a piece of silicone tube onto the leash.
  3. Now you need to thread the second end of the leash into the eye of the hook.
  4. Then you need to make 6-8 turns around the forend.
  5. In the direction of the sting, through the ring of the hook, you need to pull the second end of the leash.
  6. Now you should glue the leash to the shank of the hook.
  7. The tackle can be used immediately after the glue has dried.

Catching carp with boilies is a very interesting, but at the same time difficult activity. Boilies are very fragile, so simply putting them on a hook will not work - they will crumble. If they don’t fly apart immediately, then they will definitely fly apart during casting.

In this case, you can prevent damage to the bait using hair equipment. The peculiarity of this installation is that the tip of the hook remains constantly open, and the bait is fixed on a thin hair of the leader material.

The boilie must be prepared in advance for attachment - make a small hole there using a drill or awl. Then you need to thread the loop from the leash into the hole. After threading the loop, you need to secure it with a silicone stopper.

It is important to pay attention to the fact that the bait is located directly behind the hook.

The main thing is that the fish does not feel the hook when it bites. As a result, the carp should swallow the hook along with the bait. The fisherman can only hook the fish and take the catch ashore.

Choosing bait is a very important task that not all novice fishermen can handle. The main problem is choosing between store-bought baits and homemade boilies. It is possible to resolve the dispute, but you need to have some knowledge about the features of both types of baits.

Basic benefits of store-bought boilies are as follows:

  • It is possible to purchase several different baits of different shapes, sizes and colors, and also check which scent suits best. This will be an indispensable advantage for fishing in an unfamiliar body of water.
  • If the fisherman has too little time left before leaving for the reservoir and there is simply no time to start preparing boilies. Of course, if you are in a hurry to go fishing, then buying bait in the store will be much easier and faster.

But homemade boilies also have advantages:

  • If a fisherman constantly fishes in one place, then he knows almost everything about the taste preferences of local fish. Homemade boilies make it possible to combine a variety of ingredients that will appeal to local fish.
  • If an angler manages to catch fish with homemade bait, then it will be very easy for him to make the same one with an identical smell, size and shape.

As you can see, all types of nozzles have advantages, but they will be noticeable only in one case or another. When choosing between homemade and purchased boilies, everything also depends on the fishing conditions, as is the case with other baits.

In the production of boilies, special technologies and various components are used. Most often, the composition of such baits includes protein, flavors, and proteins. The following companies are considered the most famous boilie manufacturers:

  • Tandem Baits;
  • Mainline;
  • Richworth;
  • Prologic;

These bait manufacturers are quite famous among carp fishermen using boilies. They produce high quality and effective baits. Almost all experienced fishermen prefer to use bait from these manufacturers.

In the fishing community, catching carp with boilies is considered the most effective method for catching a trophy specimen. Small fish will not bite these baits, as their large size will discourage unwanted catch. Lures are easy to use and very effective.

The most popular among fishermen are sinking boilies. They are very easy to make at home, you just need to know the recipe and have some manufacturing knowledge. To prepare you will need the following: ingredients:

  • 1 part corn grits;
  • 1 part milk powder;
  • 1 part soybean cereal;
  • 2 parts semolina;
  • 0.5 parts ground sunflower seeds;
  • a dozen chicken eggs;
  • unrefined sunflower oil (2 tablespoons).

Manufacturing Such baits are quite simple. You just need to follow a clear sequence and recommendations:

  1. All dry ingredients must first be ground using a blender or coffee grinder.
  2. Liquid ingredients must be mixed in a large bowl.
  3. Gradually add dry ingredients to liquid ingredients and knead the dough.
  4. Place the dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  5. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll it into sausages.
  6. Cut the sausages into even pieces, then roll them into balls of the desired diameter.
  7. Dip the balls into boiling water for 2 minutes.
  8. Let the boilies cool.
  9. Dip baits in yellow or red dye.

Sometimes carp fishing with boilies occurs in conditions where some difficulties may arise with sinking baits. Then baits with positive buoyancy come to the aid of the fisherman, for the manufacture of which you will need the following Ingredients:

  • 4 parts corn flour;
  • 2 parts soy flour;
  • 1 part semolina;
  • 0.5 parts hemp seeds;
  • 1 part milk protein;
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar;
  • 15 milligrams of betaine;
  • 7 chicken eggs;
  • purple food coloring;
  • 0.5 parts salt.

This bait is made in exactly the same way as the previous one. The only difference is in the cooking process. Floating boilies do not cook in boiling water. They must be kept over a steam bath for 3 minutes.

Dusting boilies have gained a very good reputation among amateurs and professionals of carp fishing. To prepare this bait you will need the following: components:

  • flavorings (it’s best to use crab flavor);
  • 3 parts corn flour;
  • 2 parts soy flour;
  • 0.5 liters of water;
  • 1 part milk powder;
  • 10 milliliters of sugar;
  • 10 milliliters of fish oil;
  • 10 milliliters of betaine;
  • pink food coloring.

The manufacturing process exactly repeats the previous two types of baits, only the boilies are gathering dust no heat treatment required. Just lay them out on paper or a board and let the baits dry thoroughly. It is better to store such baits in the refrigerator.

There is an opinion among fishermen that carp are very attracted to various smells, and this opinion is completely justified and true. To increase the effectiveness of baits, you can add the following components:

  • roasted and crushed sunflower seeds;
  • crushed and roasted peanuts;
  • sesame seeds;
  • garlic juice;
  • cocoa;
  • ground coffee;
  • ground cinnamon;
  • various dips;
  • a little cumin;
  • vanilla sugar;
  • crab and meat flavorings.

But in addition to the aroma, you need to pay special attention to the appearance of the bait; it should be bright. An attractive appearance can be achieved by using a variety of food colorings. Bright colors of baits always attract carp.

Selection of gear

There are many ways to catch carp using boilies. Fishermen have adapted to catching this fish in different ways, which do not differ in effectiveness, but some of them are more convenient. Most likely the following gear will suit you.

Fishing with a float rod

In order for carp fishing with boilies using a float rod to be successful, you will need to acquire the following gear:

  • A telescopic rod about 5 meters long.
  • The rod test should be between 10 and 30 grams.
  • Reel size 2500 according to Shimano classification.
  • 100 meters of high-quality fishing line with a diameter of 0.25 millimeters.
  • To make a leash you will need 1 meter of fishing line with a diameter of 0.2 millimeters.
  • Float (load capacity is selected depending on fishing conditions).
  • It is best to equip the tackle with a sliding float.
  • The hook size is selected depending on the diameter of the boilie.

Feeder

Feeder gear is considered the most effective for fishing for carp and other fish. The fishing rod must be plug-in and have a very sensitive tip to detect bites.

  • The rod should be about 4 meters long and with about 100 grams of dough.
  • The weight of the feeder is selected in accordance with the depth at the fishing site and casting distance.
  • The reel must be equipped with a baitrunner.
  • The diameter of the main line is from 0.25 to 0.35 millimeters.
  • The leash should be about 0.5 meters long.

Varieties

Manufacturers

Demand creates supply, and therefore there are many companies on the bait market that produce boilies for carp. Below is a list of the most popular manufacturing companies:

  • Richworth;
  • CC More;
  • funfishing;
  • Tandem;
  • Dynamite;
  • Mainline;
  • ProLogyc;

Boilie chopper

Installation of equipment

In order for carp fishing with boilies to be effective, it is necessary to correctly install the equipment elements; in our case, we are considering equipment for boilies. Boiled balls differ from other baits in that they do not need to be literally placed on a hook; hair equipment is used to mount them.

To carry out installation we will need:

  • boilie;
  • hook;
  • hair - thread or fishing line;
  • thin drill;
  • needle;
  • stopper;
  • cambric.
