Chinese pocket catalytic heating pad after two years of use. Catalytic heating pad: instructions for using the device How to use a catalytic heating pad

The catalytic heater works on the principle of gasoline vapor oxidation on a catalyst, where a chemical reaction takes place with the release of heat, which is transferred to the metal body of the heater.

Please read this manual carefully before using!

  1. Use only specially refined gasoline for lighters as fuel. The use of other types of fuel most often leads to the failure of the heater;
  2. Do not overfill the heating pad with fuel. There must be at least 1 cm between the catalyst and the upper limit of the fuel level;
  3. If the heater cools down completely, the evaporation of gasoline stops and the heater goes out. Use the included case to prevent the heating pad from completely cooling down, or always keep it at a minimum of heat;
  4. In room conditions, the heating pad is heated to 60-70°C. Be prepared for the fact that in the cold the temperature of the operating heater will be much lower;
  5. In cold weather, to start the heater, it is recommended to heat the heater body itself, in addition to the catalyst, this will facilitate the start;
  6. In the vertical position, the heating pad heats up the most, due to the more intense evaporation of the fuel, the consumption of which, accordingly, increases;
  7. It is recommended to start the heating pad in advance, still in comfortable conditions, without wind and in warmth. It will be extremely difficult to do this in the cold, with frozen fingers, in the wind;
  8. Do not allow children to use the heating pad;
  9. To avoid poisoning, do not inhale fuel vapors and oxidation products.

Operating procedure of a catalytic gasoline heater

  1. Remove the heater cover;
  2. Remove the catalyst;
  3. Insert a funnel into the opening of the container to fill the fuel;
  4. Make sure that the lever on the funnel is in the “lock” position;
  5. Set the heating pad vertically and pour the required amount of fuel into the funnel. Move the lever on the funnel to the “open” position and the fuel will go inside the heater. If fuel overflows, wipe the heating pad with a dry cloth or rag. To fill the heating pad completely, pour 12, 24 or 36 ml. fuel for different heaters, which corresponds to 1, 2 or 3 funnels;
  6. After refueling, install the catalyst in place;
  7. Turn the heating pad to a horizontal position and bring a lit match or lighter to the catalyst;
  8. Warm up the catalyst for 10 - 15 seconds until you feel the heat transfer to the metal body of the heating pad;
  9. Replace the heating pad cover and place it in the case;
  10. When the heating pad cools down, repeat the procedure for refueling and warming up;
  11. To stop the heating process, remove the cover of the heating pad and carefully, using a dense cloth, remove the catalyst. Caution! He is very hot! Contact with skin may cause burns! Replace it after it has cooled down. Now the heating can will work until you heat up the catalyst again.

Such devices were known even under the communists and were sold in sports shops - the principle of their operation is simple and unpretentious: fuel vapors enter the "combustion chamber" filled with a catalyst, where they burn out safely without a flame, at a moderate temperature, at the same time, almost completely.
Today, those Soviet samples can still be found at flea markets, but the object of our attention today is a gadget that arrived from the People's Republic of China, where the local Kuomintang, it seems, also do not shy away from comfort and warmth.
The device is a metal disk, with a removable cover, covered on the outside with something like nickel or chrome - I don’t understand this, but it’s made with high quality. Shines like a diamond! And it’s nice to take it in your paws - such a cultural thing :)
Reviews of almost the same heating pad were here

And

But this one is a little different. On common thought - better than those surveyed, in the end you will understand why.
Here's what the farm looks like

And here it is in a disassembled form, plus a complete “canister” for refueling.

The canister, of course, is idiotic, and serves, first of all, for measuring fuel, but in practice, it spills by both when pouring into it from a can, and from the measurement itself when filling our heating pad.

Therefore, this little thing, which looks more like a toilet bowl than something filling, can and should be safely thrown into the trash - why keep trash at home ... We just pour by eye. We pour as much as we want to warm up: my personal experiments, I will say, looking ahead, showed that a full refueling (this is when it is already clearly wet under the filling grid and a little more - and the liquid will be visible) is enough for 16 hours of operation (in summer. in winter it will be longer, since the fuel evaporates more slowly and is consumed, respectively, more slowly too), and in order for the device to work for three hours, a couple of cubes are enough - I measured it with a syringe.
The main and main element of the heating pad is a cap in which a piece of mineral wool “soaked” with a catalyst is fixed - I don’t know how to put it better. Fuel vapors go from the tank there, come into contact with the catalyst particles distributed in space and react with atmospheric oxygen. To initialize the process, this head must be heated - then the process will start and will be self-sustaining.

Well, we take Kalosh gasoline from the household store, refuel our miracle, put the cap in place (tightly! the vapors should not penetrate past - otherwise they will not burn out and will stink) we take the turbo-lighter already known to everyone with a non-smoky flame (soot - this is a terrible enemy of the catalyst. It must not be polluted. Soot spoils it, so setting it on fire with a match and a candle is stupid) and bring it up for a second. Everything is ready, the lid can be closed, the process has begun. Very quickly, the entire head heats up and transfers heat to the heater body. 15 minutes - and it reaches a stable temperature, which no longer grows. Let's try on

This is at an ambient temperature of +24 degrees. In the cold, of course, it will be less.
The heating pad is equipped with a nice case on a string: the device can not only be carried in a pocket, thrown from hand to hand, but also worn under a down jacket, even on the chest, even on the back. The device is light, so it feels like a stone on the neck. I put it on under a bathrobe - it's hot. Summer is definitely out of place :)

Okay, what else? You can refuel both with gasoline (galoshes or zip-like lighter cans are suitable) and with alcohol - it works the same way. The exhaust is still there and felt in the room. Not much, but it is felt, and this is in conditions of ventilation. In winter, indoors, I think it will stink, bless you!
The instruction for the device exists in this form: a photo of the back of the box. Understand as you wish. Fortunately, there is nothing special to understand - pour and drink :)

In general, the box is not bad, and even came not wrinkled, the gadget can be given.
What is the result? Good heating pad. Cons: no built-in lighter. You have to either carry it with you or set it on fire at home. (Remembered the exposure of “those” devices promised at the beginning? I think it’s not for nothing that the Chinese removed that “igniter” - it greatly reduced the life of the catalyst. In the cold, it ignites badly and until it warms up, the catalyst deteriorates.
How to "repay"? Remove hot cap. After that, it immediately cools down and can be fastened again. But! He passes vapors through himself, and they stink. And they will stink until everything evaporates. Therefore, what? That's right, they might have guessed to give a cover for the tank to the kit: he removed the heating head, closed the tank with a plug - and the fuel does not stink in place either. A trifle, but it is not enough. You have to farm on your own.
More cons: there is no built-in flashlight :) Well, just by tradition: the Chinese build them everywhere, but why not here? :) And there is no knife, and no laser!
Thank you for your attention, my dears!

The catalytic heating pad is interesting in that it can be used many, many times. With active use heating pad lasts for several years. They come in different shapes and colors, but the principle is the same for all catalytic heaters. For those who have never used a catalytic heating pad, this article will be very useful, and those who already have it will be able to find useful Tips for extending the life of your heating pad.

So, what's happened catalytic heater and how it works. This is a small device that disassembled into three parts: tank, cap with catalyst and cover. The heating pad generates heat during the flameless oxidation of gasoline vapors in the presence of a catalyst. Gasoline vapors come from the tank and pass through the cap with the catalyst, where oxidation occurs on the surface of the already heated catalyst at a temperature slightly above 100 degrees, with heat transfer to the heater body.

How to refuel and what kind of gasoline to use for refueling.

When people hear about gasoline, everyone has a question: "How difficult is it to fill a heating pad?" In fact heating padcan refuelvery easy and neat. Any gasoline is suitable for her, but it is recommended to use only purified. First, it doesn't stink! Secondly, if you use ordinary gasoline, then you will significantly reduce the “life” of your heating pad. We use the cheapest refined gasoline for heating - this gasoline "Kalosha". You can buy it at any hardware store and it costs about 20 UAH.
Included with the heating pad is a special watering can for convenient refueling. To accurately fill the catalytic heating pad, you can use a syringe, then the chances of spilling gasoline or getting your hands dirty are minimal. syringe gasoline you can pour it into a watering can or directly into the heating pad tank, whichever is convenient for you. But if gasoline gets on your hands, then there is nothing terrible, just wash your hands with soap.

How to calculate how many hours to fill a catalytic heating pad

If you do not need a heating pad to warm all day, but only few hours then you should fill the heating pad at the rate of 1 ml per 1 hour of work. And add a few extra milliliters for a margin.
If you want the heating pad to work all day, then fill it completely. How do you know if the heating pad is full? In the tank you will see cotton wool, it is needed in order to retain gasoline. When dripping gasoline onto the cotton wool, periodically turn the tank over. When tank will be full, the cotton wool will no longer be able to hold gasoline and you will see how gasoline dripping from the tank. If gasoline flows out of the tank when you turn the tank upside down, then you have filled the heating pad completely. Wait until the gasoline drains, close the heating pad.

If you are using a heating pad for the first time, then the catalyst must be “started”.

Before starting work absolutely a new heater, the catalyst must be “started” for a better job. To do this, you need a lighter, best of all a turbo lighter. We carefully take the cap with the catalyst with pliers (for lack of it, you can use scissors) and ignite it well on both sides on fire. If you do not have a lighter, this can be done over the stove, but this must be done very carefully so as not to spoil the catalyst. It is not recommended to do this over a fire since you smoke the catalyst and shorten its service life.
There is no need to ignite the catalyst before the next use., it is enough to hold the lighters over the fire for 10 seconds.

What to do next?

After the operation, we we put a cap with a catalyst on the tank, on top of the lid. For better work, let's warm the tank in our hands and through a couple of minutes we already feel warm. Then we can put the heating pad in a pocket or in a mitten, put it in a case and hang it around our neck.

What is the heating temperature of the heating pad?

heating pad can heat up to 60 degrees, but in this case it's worth it keep in a case which is included. The heating temperature of the catalytic heater depends on the environment. If it is severe frost outside, then in your pocket a heating pad will heat approximately 45 degrees. Main give the heating pad oxygen. If you put a heating pad in your mittens, then periodically pull it out, otherwise it will go out.
If you take a heating pad with you, take a lighter with her. If the heating pad goes out, you can turn it back on in less than a minute.

How to "turn off" the heating pad?

When oxygen supply is cut off, warmer stops working. You can close access to oxygenfor a few minutes andheating pad will cool down. Or you can remove the capwith a catalyst andinstantly go out. Only be careful, cap is hot!

What to do if there is no longer a need to use a heating pad, and gasoline remains in the tank?

It must always be taken into account that gasoline evaporates. If gasoline left in the tank, then in a few days (depending on how much is left) he evaporate. So he evaporated more slowly, put on a food(or building) film on the tank where gasoline is poured. In order not to breathe fumes (although they are insignificant, for example, fumes from cars are much stronger on the street), put the heating pad in a case, or even better on the balcony.

If you decide to purchase catalytic heater in our store, we will deliver it in a convenient way for you, and also provide detailed advice on the application! Order from us right now! Enjoy winter with us!

There are several different devices that are used for heating small spaces and personal heating of a person. One of them is a catalytic heater, presented on the market in a large assortment. The prerequisite for the creation of this compact device was the inconvenience experienced by soldiers during the First World War in winter period. Find out everything about this device: about the principle of its operation, models and prices.

What is a catalytic heater

This device is a chemical heater, the purpose of which is to individually warm a person with the help of flameless oxidation of high-purity gasoline vapors. During the four years of the First World War, the inventors of England, Japan and the USA created several variants of pocket-type liquid heaters. To start the device, the tank was filled with alcohol, which was absorbed into the cotton wool, after which the device was heated by the flame of a match - as a result of this, a catalytic reaction occurred.

Today, a catalytic hand warmer and heating other parts of the body has found wide application among hobbyists. hiking trips, fishing, hunting, winter sports. She also gained great demand in the conditions associated with working on the street. In the Soviet Union, manufacturers produced a GK-1 gasoline heating pad, which, when fully charged, was capable of generating heat for 8-14 hours with a temperature index of up to 60 degrees.

The principle of operation of the catalytic heater

The device of the catalytic heater is relatively simple, because The device consists of a body made of metal, without additional parts on the outside. In terms of size, most models are comparable approximately to the palm of an adult man. A reservoir is located inside the body, and a catalyst is attached to the neck. The latter contains cotton wool, which is impregnated with gasoline. The neck is closed with a tight lid, but there are holes in it through which air enters the catalyst.

The principle of operation of the device is based on the release of heat, which is accompanied by flameless oxidation of gasoline vapors in the presence of a catalyst. Gasoline vapor passes through a special catalytic cartridge. They are oxidized by oxygen on the surface of an already heated catalyst, i.e. these vapors burn without a flame. Oxidation products exit the instrument through the lid vents. At the same time, air containing oxygen begins to flow through them to the surface of the catalyst.

The catalyst (catalytic mesh) is a platinum part that looks like a wick - this is the most important component of the heating pad. Inside it is a steel mesh cartridge. To start the grid in the catalytic cartridge, it must be heated for 10-15 seconds using a flame that does not produce soot, for example, a lighter. The fuel used for the heating pad is gasoline that has passed through the highest degree of purification. The use of other types of fuel leads to rapid deterioration of the grid - a phenomenon called "catalyst poisoning".

How to use the catalytic heater

It is possible to increase the efficiency of a device that has been clogged by calcining the mesh cartridge together with the catalyst in a muffle furnace or on a gas (non-smoking) flame. Remember that the use of individual catalytic devices in enclosed spaces is hazardous to health, because. gasoline oxidation products are highly toxic. It is necessary to use a catalytic type heating pad in accordance with the instructions:

  1. Place the device on a flat surface. If the weather is cold, then warm up the device before starting - for example, you can for 10 minutes. put it under your clothes.
  2. Enter into the tank using a special watering can / funnel (included in the kit) the required amount of gasoline for lighters or any other option that has passed the highest purification. Please note that you cannot fill the heater with motor gasoline.
  3. Be sure to fix the watering can using a special clamp for this. This approach will help to avoid leakage.
  4. Remove the watering can and put a catalyst in its place.
  5. Make sure that there is no spilled fuel on the body of the device, after which you can heat it with a match or a lighter.
  6. The catalyst will heat up to the desired temperature in approximately 5-10 seconds.

For long-term operation of this pocket device, it is very important to follow certain rules of care. The main thing - before each refueling, be sure to shake out the remaining fuel from the tank. Over time, when the surface of the device becomes dirty, warm it up for 1-2 minutes. over the flame of a gas stove - this is how you bring the device to its previous state. Thanks to this, the heating pad will heat up again to the maximum temperature.

During operation, the surface of the catalytic device can heat up to 60 degrees. This temperature is somewhat high for contact with the human body, therefore, in addition to the device, the kit also includes a special bag - you need to keep the device in it. This kind of cover is also necessary to protect the device from cooling, because. due to cold air, its operation may stop due to insufficient evaporation of the fuel. Typical uses:

  • warm your hands by placing a heating pad in a mitten or keeping it in your pocket;
  • dry shoes by placing the device inside the boot;
  • keep warm at night by placing the device in a sleeping bag.

Manufacturers of catalytic heaters

The final cost of a heating device depends on the country of origin and the company. There are models of domestic production, Korean, Chinese, etc. on the market. High-quality models cost from 1.5-2 thousand rubles and more. Today I want to tell you about one of my very old purchases.
A catalytic heater I bought on ebay two years ago.
Now we are getting cool, and I again began to use this useful thing. At the same time decided to tell about it.
I'll start with a definition. Suddenly someone does not know exactly how catalytic heaters work:

What is a catalytic heating pad:
This device is a chemical heater, the purpose of which is to individually warm a person with the help of flameless oxidation of high-purity gasoline vapors. Ntthm after a short introduction, you can move on to the subject of the review.
I bought a heating pad on ebay. Bought on the principle of "the cheapest offer." The link where I took it is no longer there, so in the header there is a link to the most cheap option who found. Although they may be cheaper.
I, then as I remember, took two heating pads. One for myself, one for my father. Both heaters work great.
At the time of arrival in the parcel, the heating pad was in the box, but it is clear that the box has not been preserved for two years. At normal times, the heating pad is stored in my felt bag, which was included. Here he is:

The heating pad itself is a metal remnant that slips very strongly in the hands. For two years of wearing in a case, the heating pad has not faded in any way, it has not been scratched and nothing has happened to it. See for yourself:

And what will happen to her if she is always in a case?
For those who are interested, I will show the dimensions:

The body of the heater is made entirely of metal. I'm assuming it's stainless steel, but I could be wrong. The body itself is collapsible and consists of several parts: a cover, a nozzle with a catalyst, and a tank with cotton wool. In the photo you can see that the heating pad has been used many times, so the catalyst nozzle has traces of soot. But this has not yet affected the heating properties of the heating pad:

If you remove the catalyst, you can see the cotton wool that needs to be impregnated with gasoline or other combustible liquid:

For fun, I tried to remove the lid to look at the insides, and it came off. Before that, I had never looked at what was inside. And inside the usual cotton wool, laid in layers:

In the photo, the condition of the heating pad is everywhere after two years of not very frequent use in the cold season.
Now I'll tell you about how I use a heating pad.
As a combustible liquid, I use gasoline for lighters, which I buy offline at a price of 400 tenge (about $ 1.1) offline:

Included with the heating pad was also a special filling funnel:

With its help, I pour gasoline into a heating pad. I usually fill in the first division of the funnel. Sometimes more.
Then I put the catalyst in place and set it on fire with ordinary matches:

In the product description, and in the instructions above, it is written that you need to heat the catalyst for 15-20 seconds. But in my case, it takes 2-3 matches to heat the catalyst. Faster catalytic converter does not light up.
By the way, this photo shows that the center of the catalyst is no longer heating up:

Most likely, due to the constant touching of matches in this place, it has already been damaged.
After the catalyst has ignited, it takes a few minutes for the heating pad to heat up. If you do not put it in a case, then literally after 2-3 minutes the heating pad in your hands feels quite hot:

But the promised 60 degrees, like the Soviet KT-1, this heating pad is clearly not gaining.
One refueling of a heating pad is enough for me on average for 4-7 hours. Depends on how much gas I put in.
I use this heater in several ways. In the autumn, at work, heating has not yet been given, and the rooms are already cool. I light a heating pad, tuck it away in the case, and slip it into the back pocket of my jeans. The ass is warm, the heat goes to the lower back, and as a result, the whole body is warm.
Of course there is another option:
Heaters "Good heat"!
Our couriers will deliver them directly to your apartment in containers of 0.5, 0.7 and
1 liter…
But it doesn't work for everyone at work.
I also always take this heating pad with me on winter fishing. No matter how good and warm clothes I stocked up, a heating pad lying in inside pocket in the bosom, gives a pleasant warmth, which is very pleasantly warm. Moreover, I am against the adoption of fishing liquids for warming up.
Based on the results of two years of use, I can safely say that this is a very successful purchase.
But now I would probably better add money and buy an original Zippo heating pad. Here it is in this color:

According to reviews, the quality of these heaters is much higher than that of Chinese ones. They have catalysts made from a real titanium alloy, which is more reliable and durable. Well, plus the appearance is more interesting.
That's all. I wish everyone warmth in these already cool autumn days. Take care of yourself and your health. I plan to buy +60 Add to favorites Liked the review +92 +148
